7th Annual Sensory-Friendly First Responders Meet & Greet

Who: Shawnee Police & Fire Departments, Johnson County Med-Act and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office

When: Saturday, April 18, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM – Noon

Where: Shawnee Police Department, 5850 Renner Rd., Shawnee, KS

It’s time for the 7th annual event for children & adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other Special Needs. Members of the Shawnee Police & Fire Departments, Johnson County Med-Act and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office will be present to show off emergency vehicles and other equipment. The overall goal is to offer families with special needs members the opportunity to engage with first responders in a more controlled & less chaotic environment.

Camp Encourage

Tie Dye and S’mores 2026

 Who:  Camp Encourage

When:  Saturday, April 11, 2026

Time: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Where: Heartland Retreat Center (16965 MO-45, Parkville, MO 64152)

What:  Join in for an afternoon of tie dying and s’mores making! Feel free to bring your own picnic and a blanket or chairs, if you’d like. In addition to connecting on a lovely April day enjoying s’mores by the fire, there will be tie dye supplies set up under the covered pavilion. Please feel free to bring your own articles to tie dye (shirt, socks, headband, tote bag, etc.)! It is sure to be a good time for all!

KC Special Needs Planning Conference 2026

When:  Monday & Tuesday, May 4-5, 2026

Where:  Overland Park Convention Center, 6000 College Blvd., Overland Park, KS

This event was created to enhance the expertise of professionals in the Midwest, empowering them to better serve individuals with special needs. The conference aims to bring top-tier education from across the United States to Kansas City, offering an affordable and accessible opportunity for Midwesterners. All proceeeds go to benefit the Heartland Special Needs Foundation.
